Summer of Celebrations |
2010 |
2010 is well upon us and with it we are fast approaching both the 70th Anniversary of the Battle of Britain as well as 65 years since the end of WWII. Both will be marked by a range of events here in the UK, and by our allies overseas. Details of celebrations are already being published, so check out the dates and get them in your diaries now! While we have your attention, note the Duxford dates...... Legends 10-11th July, the Battle of Britain Show on 4-5th September and the Autumn Show on 10th October. Our own FAA Air Day at Yeovilton will be held on 10th July. Let's hope the weather plays ball this year.
In talking Anniversaries, Vulcan XH558 celebrates her 50th birthday this year! She is, however, still fighting for funds in order to participate in the 2010 season. If you have not contributed, any donation would be gratefully received by the trustees but ideally the long term solution would be for a major sponsor to step forward.
The team here at Oldnautibits continue to search far and wide for fresh stock. Never an easy task and now more than ever demand is outstripping supply. If you have a special requirement feel free to log this with us and if we don't have one we may know where to find it!
To conclude in this year of anniversaries, it is with sadness we heard of the passing of Wing Commander Bob Doe on 21st February, 2010. So few of "The Few" now remain with us and Bob Doe was a true gentleman and modest to a fault after a glittering service career where he became the third highest scoring Ace during the Battle of Britain. We will remember him.
