Countdown to Christmas |
2009 |
Where did the Summer go? The transition from Autumn to Winter has been instantaneous and with the current storms sweeping the UK, we will all be in need of an Ark if this continues. Sadly, the barbeque Summer our Met men promised failed to materialise and the unseasonal weather had an impact on many of the scheduled events. The oldnautibits team did, however, manage an office outing to the excellent Flying Legends Show at Duxford and we were able to meet up with many of our friends and customers.
Now with the festive season nearly upon us, thoughts turn to giving and receiving. We are already tracking down some special commissions, so if you are chasing a specific item for the collector in your life, please contact us to see if we can help. If we don't have one here we may just know someone who does!

Summer of Celebrations 2009 |
2009 |
Here in the UK we are gearing up for a summer of celebration and rememberance. On the 6th June it will be the 65th Anniversary of Operation Overlord and the invasion of Europe with many events planned both here and over the channel in France. Check out your local and specialist press for events near you! Then on 11th July our local air show at the Fleet Air Arm base at Yeovilton will be celebrating 100 years of naval aviation. In September we will witness the 70th anniversary of the start of WWII which will make the range of air shows and other events that month something to remember.
Despite the economic gloom and doom, compounded by scandal from Westminster, the team at oldnautibits continues to be kept fully occupied. While we are still finding new stock, much of it sells almost immediately, so if you do have a special requirement, please feel free to ask.
And now for something completely different! While we offer all manner of nautical and aeronautical collectables, we have never listed a car before. If your fancy is a classic MGB sports car with an RAF association, please watch this space. It is currently having its MOT annual test and providing no problems, will be listed under our aviation miscellaneous section. Just the job for our "barbeque summer", attending all the special events and of course for posing in your original Irvin flying jacket!

Always Look on the Bright Side of Life! |
2009 |
Whilst in the current economic climate it is hard to stay positive, the team here at the oldnautibits HQ continue to buck the trend. It seems that the media (here in the UK at least), are determined to force us into recession if not depression and while times are difficult for us all, a positive attitude should see us safely out of the mess thrust upon us by our politicians and fat cat bankers.
Being at heart collectors who happen to be dealers, our current policy is to invest any surplus funds in quality stock, as by buying wisely we should be able to get enjoyment from the collection and hopefully see a decent return on the investment, which is certainly not the case these days placing spare cash on deposit or in the stock market.
Our buying team are already out on the road tracking down unusual stock, although with the pound sterling like Monopoly money against the European and US currencies, we are currently resticted to sourcing only from the UK. It is, however, for the same reason a great time to buy from England, so please don't hold back!
The Monty Python team had it right all along and let's make 2009 a year to remember - for the right reasons!!
