This lavishly produced replica covers Stanford Tuck's RAF career from his basic training in 1935 in an Avro Tutor to his final sortie in a Canberra in 1954. The section covering the Battle of Britain is superb and recorded in the matter of fact manner of the day. Tuck's final wartime Op on 28th January, 1942 reads "Rhubarb Patrol. Prisoner of War." When he went "in the bag", he had achieved 29 victories and had he continued on operations, could well have become Britain's top scoring ace. As close as it comes to owning the real thing! It was written anonymously when published in 1941 as the author was very much in the front line, serving with no. 1 Squadron. The author was subsequently killed in action and his name was released as Paul Richey. This gripping book is a personal account of the Battle of France from September 1939 to June 1940 when the author was flying Hawker Hurricanes. The book is perfusely illustrated with original black and white photographs of his fellow pilots Killy, Prosser, Boy, Moses, the Doc and others! It also has pictures of the aircraft, airfields and combat. The book has its original dust jacket with just minor damage and is in generally very good condition. A classic fighter pilot's story and covers his training and the Battle of Britain when he suffered severe burns to his face and hands and underwent plastic surgery under the pioneering surgeon Archibold McIndoe, thus becoming one of his very early "guinea pigs".
