| 5558 |  | | HMS Ark Royal Brass Plaque - We believe this item to be from the Ark launched in 1950 and withdrawn from service and broken up in 1980. The plate is nicely engraved with the ship's name and was removed from the foreway electrical link box and marked no. 53131, 220 volts and features a wiring diagram listing millivolt drop values. The detail is engraved into the brass which is of a very solid built quality. Any item which served on the Ark is hugely desirable to collectors and moreso seeing our government has chosen to scrap the current Ark despite having no replacement for her in the foreseeable future - but we are antique dealers and what do we know about defence and politics? | PC171 |  |  | Superb Antique Sideboard/Dresser from a Gentleman's Yacht - This gorgeous item of furniture is both practical and decorative and while probably not unique, we suspect you would be hard pressed to find another to match it. This is a family item which we are marketing on behalf of the owners. It was purchased many years ago in the port of Falmouth, Cornwall. Sadly we have no specific history with it but the current owner was told it was removed from a gentleman's yacht. It is made from solid mahogany with 9 drawers, 2 of which are deep cellarette , both drawers with room to store up to 18 bottle of the captain's favourite grog! It also features a central cellarette cupboard with 3 shelves. A row of 3 top drawers surmount 6 smaller drawers which have brass handles and dove tailed joints. The base features 3 trap door style compartments which we are told would have given access to the bilges. The top of the dresser features a brass fiddle rail to prevent the loss of plates and glasses in a rolling sea. A wonderful hidden feature of this stunning item is the rear mirror which operates in the fashion of a sash window and glides down on a weight and pulley system to provide access to a serving hatch that separated the saloon from the galley when in service. This item is currently in Cornwall and ideally we would prefer collection by the purchaser but UK delivery may be possible by separate negotiation. It is extremely heavy, as you would expect for a piece of this quality but it will disassemble for transit. You certainly won't find one of these in Ikea! Five Royal Naval vessels have been named Boadicea dating back to 1875 and the most recent a destroyer launched in 1930 and sunk by air attack off Portland, Dorset on 13th June, 1944. | 5149 |  | | HMS Berwick Screen Badge - Made of cast alloy and features a fine crest in traditional Chatham pattern. Nine Royal Navy ships have carried the name HMS Berwick. The first from 1679 and the most recent the frigate launched in 1959 and sunk in the North Atlantic as a targtet in 1986. Our badge is cast in relief and finely painted. | 5098 |  | | Boat Badge from HMS Cleopatra - Seven ships of the Royal Navy have carried the name Cleopatra which this badge almost certainly came from the D class cruiser of 5,450 tons which was launched in 1940 and finally went to the breakers in 1958. The badge is made from alloy (common during WWII) and the relief is picked out in the original paint. Since being removed from one of the ship's boats, it has been nicely mounted on a mahogany display shield. Cleopatra was adopted by the town of Harrogate and she served with distinction throughout WWII and won battle honours on Malta convoys and for Sirte (1942) and for Sicily in 1943. | 5192 |  | | Ship's Bell named to T.S.M/Y Corgi - A nice original example finished in chrome on brass with clapper, bell rope and bulkhead mount. We understand the engraving indicates the vessel "Corgi" was a Twin Screw motor yacht although we don't have any information on her. The bell has minor wear to the chrome plate but it is a good honest example that would serve equally well ashore as it has done afloat. | 2128 |  | | Brass Tiller Yoke with Fitted Pulley Blocks - Superbly cast from solid brass, this would have been fitted to the top of the rudder on a rowing skiff, Admiral's barge or similar. We are unsure as to its date but possibly late 1800's. | 636 |  | | HMS Worcester Transom Board Seat Back - A unique item of treen with interesting provenance. Built as a first rate screw ship in 1860 called "Frederick William", she was subsequently renamed "Worcester" and became a training ship for merchant navy cadets and was moored on the Thames at Greenhithe. She foundered on her moorings 30.08.48 with the hulk being raised for breakup in 1953. This seat back, which we believe to be from one of the ship's boats (possibly the Admiral's barge), was recovered from the Thames foreshore shortly after the sinking 62 years ago. | 47 |  | | Ship's Deck Filler Cap - No, this is not a giant's bath plug hole! It is, however, a filler cap and mount, made from solid brass with screw fitted removable cover which is attached with a safety chain to avoid loss whilst at sea. This would probably have been flush fitted to the ship's deck to give access to either diesel or water tanks. The item's diameter is 7.5" (19cm) and is 3.5" (8cm) deep. | 2402 |  |  | Bofors Gun Speaking Tube & Plaque - A most unusual grouping comprising firstly, a copper and brass speaking tube with a section of the orignal communication pipe. This carries a plaque reading Bofors Guns and Wheelhouse. This is accompanied by a heavy brass plaque which we imagine was fixed to the Bofors Gun and is marked Branch Breaker EWI-13. | 3206 |  | | HMT Milford Princess Screen Badge - A painted wooden badge with heavy brass backing plate in diamond form surmounted by a gold crown. The coat of arms is hand painted and while showing some age wear, it is in generally good condition. Milford Princess was built as a trawler and pre war there were over 100 vessels in the Milford Haven fleet. In December 1939 the number had halved, with the most efficient being conscripted into the Royal Naval Patrol Service. Milford Princess registered port no. M228 carried pennant FY616, indicating she was assigned to minesweeping duties. She served from September 1939 to September 1945, after which time she was returned to her owners. This badge could well have been made up on board and would probably have been mounted on the front of the bridge. Good original condition with some service wear.

| 4463 |  | | Ship's Wheel with outer rim - A genuine helm of the type often fitted to working boats with the outer rim preventing the spinning spokes catching on clothing and also to aid manoeuvrability. Heavy hardwood construction with painted iron boss and brass banding. | 3200 |  | | Pair of Enamel Boat Badges - Both badges were found by a diver in the River Thames. One is named to the vessel Madge, dated 1930 and issued by Thames Conservancy, and licensed use on a stretch of water from Sonning to Boveney (nr. Windsor). We are told the Madge was a Thames Steamer and served with the Upper Thames Patrol (aquatic version of the Home Guard!) This badge is accompanied by another found in the same area. This is also issued by the Thames Conservancy and while somewhat faded, is marked 62/342 and available until 31st December, 1914. Some chipping to the enamel with some restoration. 4" (10.5 cm) | |

| 4649 |  | | Motor Boat Cleat from HMS Amethyst of Yangtze Incident fame - Mounted on an oak shield with details of provenance. The cleat is brass with chrome plating. HMS Amethyst was a frigate of 1350 tons and launched in 1943. In 1949 she sailed up the Yangtze river to assist with the evacuation of British citizens caught up in the Chinese civil war. Shore defences opened up killing or injuring 54 of her crew including her captain. This incident and her subsequent escape was featured in the famous film where HMS Amethyst played herself! | |

In the age of satelite navigation, these wonderful instruments are obsolete, but they make very attractive display items and look extremely well mounted on a suitable display board. The fin is stamped with an anchor design T.W. and Cherub. Sold as a display item, although might well work as originally intended but we don't have the facility to test! | |
| 4377 |  | | S.S. Broomhill Wooden Plaque - We believe this to be a ship's lifeboat name board from the ill fated vessel. It is made from mahogany with the lettering in white paint and varnished over. The reverse has evidence of a paper label but if this contained the provenance of the piece, this has long since gone. What we do know is that the SS Broomhill was a steam collier of 1392 tons, built in 1909. She was captured in Lyme Bay in southern England by the German submarine UC61 on 10.05.17. She was sunk by explosive charges, sadly with the loss of 2 lives, brothers James and Robert Jone who were both firemen. She is lying at 50 metres and is largely intact. We can only assume this plaque was removed from a lifeboat by one of the survivors and kept as a souvenir of that eventful day 91 years ago. Dimensions 17.5" (45cm) | |
| 66 |  | | Kings Town Trader Minto Life Ring - An original example finished in red with reflective strips and rope surround. Painted with the ship's name in Gothic lettering. Sadly we have no history of the vessel the ring came from, although we have discovered a Minto in the Scottish borders area and also in Canada. The item has some bumps and bangs, no doubt acquired during its life at sea but would make an ideal wall decoration in a seaside pub, seafood restaurant or in a nautical bathroom.
