Description |
 | | Air Ministry Chobert Riveter Type A No. 6563 - This is only the second example we have had and is nicely marked with A.M., King's Crown and dated 1943. It was supplied by Aviation Developments Ltd. and comes in a fitted pine box. The external property plaque has been removed, possibly when the item was "acquired" from the Air Ministry! Interestingly, the box is marked with a military broad arrow and with the letters RN, so we speculate this example could have served with the FAA. The box contains a sealed tin and a further three wooden boxes with slide lids containing rivets, rods and assorted spare parts. While offered for sale as a collector's item, the rivet gun has a strong spring and may well still function as intended if you have a Spitfire project in your garden shed! Box measures 15" x 12" (38 cm x 30 cm)
 | | Battle of Britain Officer's Presentation Lamp - This unusual decorative oil lamp is engraved to the front "Presented by Group Captain N. C. Odbert Wyton October 1948. The lamp which is solid silver carries a Birmingham hallmark and is in generally good condition, although it has a small ding to the front. Norman Cyril Odbert joined the RAF in 1927 and in May 1940 took command of 64 Squadron at Kenley flying Spitfires and is recorded as "One of the Few". He survived the war and remained as a regular in the RAF retiring as a Group Captain in 1957. RAF Wyton in Cambridgeshire was a bomber base in WWII and we understand Group Captain Odbert was the CO at this station and perhaps presented the lamp to the officers' mess as a retirement gift. Original items directly relating to B of B pilots very rarely come on the market and it was touch and go if this lamp joined our own modest collection! Length 6" (14 cm).
 | | RAF Spectacles Anti Glare Mk.14 - We purchased these directly from the officer to whom they were issued and as they were a spare pair, have never been used in anger. They come complete with the RAF hard case and embossed to the lid is the writing "Spectacles Mark 14 22C/2432 medium" with the government broad arrow property mark. These are extremely high quality glasses and while for sale as a collectable, would also be eminently usable for flying, driving or posing as Top Gun!
 | | B-24 Model Liberator - A very fine example manufactured from solid brass with unusual perspex propellers to give a realistic impression of the aircraft in flight. Unlike many models of this type, the detailing and proportions are excellent and it is complimented by a mahogany and brass display stand. This would make an fine addition to an aviation collection. It is heavy, so please check postage with us. Wing span 13" (34 cm)
 | | RAF Trench Art Candlesticks - A very fine matched pair made from polished aircraft aluminium interspersed with what we believe to be paxolin which was used as an electrical insulator in WWII, as well as for the manufacture of instruments panels. Almost certainly made by aircraft fitters in their off duty moments and probably date from the second World War. We see many examples of trench art but these are as nice as we have had and would make the perfect addition to an RAF or trench art collection, as well as being completely functional candlesticks. Measure 7.5" (19cm)
 | | RAF Trench Art Paper Knife - Made from aircraft scrap materials with the handle fashioned from Plexiglas and washers with the steel section probably originally used as a tensioning support. The cross guard is brass and the grip top copper. Almost certainly crafted by an aircraft fitter in his spare time. A decorative and functional addition to any RAF collection. Measures 6.5" (17cm)
 | | RAF Aerial Kite - Model M-347-A. Complete with yellow painted issue tin with very clear instructions and illustration of a downed airman in his dinghy. These kites were used by both RAF and USAAF airmen and by attaching the Gibson Girl aerial wire, they were then able to transmit an emergency signal to summon air sea rescue services. These kites often saw post war service in the hands of small boys (myself included!) and few have survived in this condition. Other than the string being missing, it is more or less perfect. We have seen a similar item sell recently on eBay for an excess of £200. Ours is available at a very modest £95! Pictures of the kite assembled available on request.
 | | RAF Trench Art Ashtray - Made from batttlefield brass. Very finely worked with King's Crown, RAF and 'Souvenir of Egypt 1942'. Small but beautifully formed and a reminder of the Desert War 66 years ago. Diameter 4" (10.5cm)
| PC99 | | | RAF Flying Boots - Post war example, finished in black leather and in excellent issued condion. Marked with a broad arrow, these boots are UK size 8 and are named to A. W. Henry. This pattern dates to the 1950's and they conform to the WWII escape boots with the leg section designed to be cut away converting the boots to conventional shoes if downed over enemy territory. The soles have been repaired but generally an excellent example from the Cold War period. |
 | | Air Ministry Hand Bell 1940 - As used on RAF stations throughout WWII. This one comes from my own collection and is a text book example with a good clear King's Crown and AM property mark as well as contract number B 66777-40 and below C22C. The bell is made from brass with a hardwood handle and original clapper and still produces a good clear ring. Measures 10" (25cm).
 | | RAF Unit Plaques mounted on oak shields. - We have three available, named to Electrical & Wireless School, 30 and 107 Maintenance Units. These are quality plaques manufactured by Hunter & Smallpage Ltd. of York and are cast from metal rather than the more common resin or plaster examples. We bought as a set and presume the original owner served at these establishments. Each measures 9.5" (24cm) high and 7" (18cm) wide. While we have priced individually, we would sell the set of three for £30.
 | | USAAF B-3 Flying Jacket - An original example with woven label confirming a 1943 contract date and size 40" regular. While this jacket does not have a maker's name on the label, the front pocket shows evidence of a label having been fitted which was a unique feature of Rough Wear produced jackets. This example has clearly had a hard working life and the back panel has numerous repair patches fitted but from the front the jacket displays very well with a good vintage patina. The zip has been professionally replaced with a correct specification Talon. Some repairs to collar but correct straps and buckles fitted. Some thinning to fur lining.
 | | USAAF B-3 Flying Jacket by H L B Corp - An orginal example with a 1942 contract date and woven label indicating size 36" regular. The jacket has a nice patina and is in generally good issued condition but some old repairs mainly to left arm. Correct waist and collar straps fitted and fur lining in good condition. We have had the zip professionally repaired with the correct specification Talon example. Hanging strap is absent.
 | | Trench Art Eagle and Letter Opener - Manufactured from Plexiglas, almost certainly recovered from crashed aircraft. The eagle is mounted on a hardwood base with detailed carving. This is accompanied by a letter opener made from the same material and embossed on the handle, Tunis 1943. These items were purchased together and were probably fashioned by the same hand. Eagle wing span 6" (15cm), letter opener 8" (20cm)
 | | Trench Art Picture Frame - Manufactured from an original mahogany propeller tip with brass leading edge and with a cut out frame to the centre, complete with a black and white photograph of an aviator. He appears to be wearing Luxor goggles, so would seem to date from the 1930's, although this pattern was popular up until the Battle of Britain. The perspex picture cover is somewhat opaque, but this gives the item a period feel. It would easily be replaced in required. Mounted on a wooden base, this is a very aesthetically pleasing item and the picture would easily be changed to feature the aviator in your life! Measures 8" (20cm) high including base.
 | | RAF Crest and Wings - Cast in brass with the crest surmounted by a King's Crown. This item has the look of a bonnet or radiator mount, but the base has not been threaded for attachment and we presume therefore it was designed as a display or presentation item. Nice original condition, but without maker's marks. Wing span 9.5" (24cm)
 | | Newman Industries Ltd. Yate Presentation Ashtray - Mounted above is a fine brass model of a Hurricane fighter on a painted metal stand. Newmans of Yate, nr. Bristol were contracted by the Air Ministry in WWII to fabicate aircraft parts and we assume this included components for the Hurricane. The factory was clearly considered a threat by the German High Command and was bombed by the Luftwaffe in 1941. The ashtray base, which could be made from Bakelite, has a minor chip to the lower edge, but this does obviously detract and is a fine example which was no doubt presented by Newmans to their corporate customers at the time. Diameter 7" (17cm)
 | | RAF Half Pint Tankard - A fine example engraved with an RAF crest to the front, surmounted by a King's Crown and whilst not dated, almost certainly of the WWII period. The base is stamped 25 Half Pint 10149 W. It is not hallmarked, so we imagine it is made from nickel silver. 3.75" (9cm)
 | | RAF Benevolent Fund Bell - Cast from alloy salvaged from a shot down Luftwaffe aircraft between 1939-1945 and sold in the early post-war period to raise funds for RAF charities. Features in relief Churchill, Stalin and Roseveldt and with Churchill's victory V to the handle. In excellent original condition complete with clapper. Measures 6" (14cm)
 | | The Battle of Britain Tankard by Gordon Davies - Issued by the RAFA in 1990 to commemorate the 50th Anniversary of the Battle of Britain. It features fine transfer prints of Spitfires, although sadly the Hurricane that played such a crucial role has been omitted! It also features a pilot scrambling as well as the RAF crest. Measures 5" high (12cm), 1 pint capacity.
