HMS Caledonia was a shore establishment based at Rosyth, Scotland and was used for engine room artificer training.We are advised by an ex engine room artificer this piece would have been made as part of the 3 year training programme. TS Caledonia was destroyed by fire in 1939 and the trainees were evacuated to the Isle of White. 14cm diameter. |

| PC34 |  |  | SS Tahiti Memorabilia - grouping named to a survivor of the sinking of SS Tahiti. This ship belonging to the Union Steam Ship Company of New Zealand sank August 15th 1930. Included is a piece of fabric cut from a Tahiti Lifebelt, signed by officers and crew of the Tahiti and the SS Ventura who rescued them from the ocean. Also included are 24 original photographs of the sinking, a cable confirming passenger Lilly rescued, a related newspaper article, a menu and other ephemera. |
| 1457 |  |  | Royal Mail Steam Packet Company Memorabilia - grouping that relates to Commodore W.E. Smith DSO RD RNR of the Royal Mail Steam Packet Company. Included is Commodore Smith’s visor cap with fine badge, his brass belt buckle, a badge and button. Commodore Smith had an illustrious career serving his apprenticeship on the clipper Cutty Sark and was on board in 1885 when she broke the speed record from Sydney to London. The lot includes original letters, newspaper cuttings, a copy of Smith’s Master’s Certificate and related ephemera. |
| 1456 |  |  | Silver Cigarette Case - hallmarked Birmingham 1931 with initials "HJD" and finely engraved inside "From Torpedo men HMS Neptune 1935". HMS Neptune was a Leander class light cruiser launched in 1933 and sunk in Libyan waters on 19th December 1941. 766 of her 767 hands were lost. The sole survivor being Able Seaman John Norman Walton. Further research required, but we must assume that "HJD" went down with his ship. |
