Japanese Airman's Rescue Signal Flag
Designed to be folded and carried by Japanese airman in WWII, to aid rescue if forced to ditch over water. The flag is made from a very light material, possibly silk and stitched within the edge is a kapok type floatation device to enable the flag to be spread flat on the water. The rising sun section is oversized compared to a regular Japanese flag, in order to attract maximum attention. Minor service wear and staining, but a most unusual and rare item. 102 cm x 79 cm (40" x 31")
